OTTAWA, ON, Nov. 2, 2026 /CNW/ -- The Minister of Transport and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, the Honourable Steven MacKinnon, has issued the following statement:
"Today marks the 90th anniversary of the creation of Transport Canada. It is with great pride that I invite all Canadians to celebrate our extensive transportation system, a system we can be proud of and that is recognized worldwide as secure, safe, efficient, and environmentally sustainable.
"For 90 years, Transport Canada has been protecting Canadians, connecting communities, and fostering our country's prosperity. From regulator to strategic partner of the Canadian economy, it has evolved and its legacy is a safer, more connected, and more competitive Canada.
"Since 1936, Transport Canada has been at the heart of some of Canada's greatest achievements. By advancing aviation, marine, rail, and road safety; by supporting the modernization of transportation infrastructure; and by promoting innovation and environmental protection, the department has evolved with the times while remaining true to its mission.
"From coast to coast to coast, generations of dedicated Canadians have put their expertise and passion to work for our country. Their work has touched the lives of millions of citizens every day.
"Today, Transport Canada is much more than a regulatory body. It is a powerful economic engine that helps keep Canada moving in an ever-changing world. By facilitating trade, strengthening supply chains, improving transportation corridors, and fostering innovation, the department contributes every day to the competitiveness and economic vitality of the country.
"Therefore, we look to the future with confidence, ambition, and optimism. We know that this flagship institution will continue to bring Canadians together, ensure transportation safety, and pave the way for new opportunities for generations to come.
"Happy 90th anniversary, Transport Canada!"
