SUSSEX, NB, Oct. 23, 2026 /CNW/ -- Atlantic Potash Millstream Corporation (APMC) today released findings from an independent 2026 Public Perception Study, conducted by Narrative Research, showing broad public support for the proposed Millstream Potash Project among residents of Saint John County and Kings County, New Brunswick.
Seven in ten residents surveyed (71%) are aware of the proposed potash mine near Sussex, New Brunswick. Among those aware, 82% support the project. After respondents were provided a brief description of the project – including its projected 280 to 340 direct jobs, two million tonnes of annual potash production, and 25-year mine life – support rose to 92%, with opposition remaining very low at just 3%.
"We are pleased that residents in the communities closest to this project see its potential," said Keith Attoe, CEO and Director of APMC. "This research confirms what we have heard directly from families and businesses: there is a real appetite for responsible resource development that creates good jobs and delivers long-term economic benefit to the region."
The survey of 200 residents, conducted October 6-14, 2026, found that employment opportunities, economic growth, and local revitalization are the primary reasons residents support the development.
Residents were clear about what responsible development looks like. Environmental protections and oversight (47%), long-term economic sustainability (44%), and regional economic benefits (42%) ranked as the top priorities residents want the provincial government to apply when approving new mining projects. APMC is committed to meeting those expectations through rigorous environmental standards and ongoing community engagement.
"We see considerable benefits ahead for these communities, and we intend to deliver the kind of responsible project residents are looking for," Attoe said. "That means employing local people, working transparently with communities, and upholding the environmental standards people expect."
About the Millstream Potash Project
The Millstream Potash Project holds a measured resource of 52.1 million tonnes of KCl, underpinned by an NI 43-101 Resource Estimation Report. The deposit is projected to support a 25-year mine life producing two million tonnes per year at an average KCl grade of 32.6%. Located 70 kilometres from the Port of Saint John – which handles more than two million tonnes of potash annually and offers direct sea routes to key markets in Brazil and beyond – the project benefits from existing rail infrastructure, available port capacity, and access to competitively priced natural gas.
